Safaricom Reverse Call Feature is Live

A few days ago, we got wind of Safaricom’s plan to launch a reverse call product. The service, which is not new especially for folks who used old school telephones when requesting for a call back via an operator, has gone live for Safaricom customers. It complements the likes of Please Call Me (that launched back in 2005) and Okoa Jahazi that help in completing calls or requesting for one in case a user has limited or zero airtime.

How it works

Reverse calls are quite easy to make or request. In principle, the initiator transfers the cost of the call to the target party by putting a hashtag in front of their numbers like #0725******.

The recipient is then notified of the reverse call. They can acknowledge or decline, so there is that option in case you not willing to exhaust your airtime or you don’t have any.

It should be noted that the option is only available for on-net calls. It cannot be used for roaming users or for making international calls.

“At Safaricom, we maintain our commitment to always provide our customers with relevant products in line with their needs. This innovation is in line with this commitment and has been tailored to mirror the relationships between our customers with a goal of empowering them to always remain connected with their loved ones,” says Sylvia Mulinge, Chief Customer Officer, Safaricom.

Obviously, this is an attractive feature for a lot of people, including yours truly. We hope other carriers will follow suit and introduce it in the coming days.
